March 7-8, 2025
Baton Rouge, LA
Goal: This meeting will unite academic researchers, industry specialists, and gigging performers — spheres that work nearly in tandem in the relatively new milieu of contemporary electric guitar — from across the Gulf South, with a particular emphasis on those that are doing cutting-edge work in each field. Organizers hope that curious players will encounter lines of research that may have been previously unfamiliar, while programmers and effects builders will learn firsthand what ambitious guitarists are looking for. Our focus is on our home region of the Gulf South, but very broadly and inclusively defined (broadly enough to encompass just about anyone, in fact!).
Open for Submissions: proposals for performances or presentations will be accepted, with a deadline of January 24, 2025. Any and all ideas are accepted, no academic affiliation necessary. Please get in touch if you think you may have something to contribute by writing to ctrapani@lsu.edu. We are particularly interested in proposals for:
- works for electric guitar with electronics or other technological elements
- presentations that demonstrate a creative approach to electric guitar interaction with technology
Schedule: The summit will kick off with a seminar by Jeff Snyder (3PM) and High Voltage concert (7PM) on Friday, March 7. Presentations and demonstrations are slated for the morning of March 8, followed by a hands-on session and a keynote lecture from Prof. Erik Broess. On Saturday evening, there will be a closing concert featuring three sets from creative Gulf Coast guitarists. A more specific schedule will follow soon.
