The Louisiana State University School of Music and the Center for Computation and Technology invite applications for a tenure-track position, Assistant Professor of Experimental Music & Digital Media, with appointment to begin in August 2023. We seek creative artists with demonstrated ability to contribute to emerging understandings of how technology, computation, and digital resources are profoundly changing the way in which we compose, perform, study, and teach music.
Assistant Professor of Electronic Music/Digital Media
- Teach courses. Courses may include those aligned with the undergraduate Digital Media minor, and Digital Media Arts & Engineering
- Perform research, scholarship and creative activity within the School of Music’s Experimental Music & Digital Media program and the Center for Computation & Technology’s (CCT) Cultural Computing group
- Other duties include attracting extramural funding and work with interdisciplinary teams that include faculty, doctoral students, post-docs and research associates
- Participate in other educational and professional tasks of the Department and the University
Required Qualifications: PhD, DMA or equivalent degree or experience within their discipline. Successful candidate will have the capacity to build distinguished record of research, teaching, extramural funding, performances, publications and service, as well as a strong reputation in their discipline. The candidate’s research field of interest must include one or more of the following:
• Artificial Intelligence• Interactive Music Systems• Machine Learning• XR-extended reality/Virtual Worlds
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching students of diverse identities and backgrounds and show a commitment to contributing to a diverse academic and artistic community reflective of LSU’s rich regional and national demographics.
Desired Qualifications: Candidate should have additional research interests in one or more of the following areas:
- Cyberinfrastructure Applications in Music
- Democratization of Musical Interfaces
- Digital Musical Instruments / Digital Lutherie
- Digital Signal Processing/Synthesis
- Electroacoustic Music Composition
- Experimentalism in Music
- History of Electroacoustic Music
- Immersive Sound Diffusion
- Music Information Retrieval
- Musical Robotics
- Ubiquitous Music Computing
Additional Position Information: Successful candidate should have ability to build interdisciplinary research teams that complement existing strengths among the faculty and community. Their research and creative foci should gain strength from the facilities, expertise and other resources found at the School of Music, CCT and LSU broadly. This position will have the expectation of success with extramural funding from governmental, industrial or philanthropic sources.
