Posted by on Sep 22, 2018

Come to the Laptop Orchestra Concert on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:30PM in the School of Music Recital Hall.

At this noteworthy concert, the Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana will investigate the bounds of experimental music performance ranging from joystick music to alternative percussion to musical email. Featuring notable works by Philip Glass, Pauline Oliveros, Margaret Schedel, and Ge Wang, as well as a group improvisation, Roman Jones’ interpretation of a composition by La Monte Young, and the composition You’ve Got Mail.

The Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana is an ensemble of computer musicians. The LOLs perform contemporary electronic chamber music, using homemade software instruments and new digital interfaces. The LOLs have toured across the U.S. and performed at festivals such as the Symposium for Laptop Orchestras and Ensembles (SLEO) and the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the U.S. (SEAMUS). View videos at https://www.youtube.com/user/lsuEMDM

Currently, the course is listed as Music 4270 and titled EMDM Ensemble. Rehearsals/class meetings are Tuesdays from 3-6 PM in room 304 of the School of Music building. You must be a registered undergraduate (any major, AVATAR minor preferred) or a graduate student affiliated with EMDM to enroll.

The Laptop Orchestra of Louisiana explores a wide variety of experimental music techniques and music software design strategies. Working together, undergraduate and graduate students collaborate by performing each others compositions as well as assisting in helping develop them. For this, we are always looking to try out new, cutting edge approaches for interacting with music hardware or music software. Come find out what it’s all about!
